Museums
- Captain Cook Museum The Museum is in the 17th century house on Whitby’s harbour where the young James Cook lodged as apprentice. It was here Captain Cook trained as a seaman, leading to his epic voyages of discovery.
- Eden Camp A visit to this unique Museum will transport you back in time to wartime Britain. You will experience the sights, sounds, even the smells of those dangerous years with specially reconstructed scenes.
- Ryedale Folk Museum Step back in time, and disocver how your ancestors lived, nineteen buildings full of different aspects of rural life. Hutton-Le-Hole, two miles off the Thirsk to Scarborough road
- Whitby Museum Here you can explore an amazing collection of local fossiles, natural history, model ships, carved jet, toys costumes and social history. There are relics of the Scoresbys - famous whalers - and Captain Cook.
Restaurants
- Magpie Cafe Located, since 1939 in a building dating from 1750. The Magpie Cafe is housed in a distinctive black and white building overlooking the harbour. As well as the harbour, the dining room commands excellent views of the Abbey and St. Mary's Church.
- The Copper Horse, Seamer The Copper Horse country pub & restaurant for high quality dining and cuisine, in Seamer, near Scarborough.
Shops
- Bothams of Whitby Since 1865, Elizabeth Botham & Sons has been a family run craft bakery in the Whitby. Following their original recipes, the finest ingredients are combined to produce Biscuits, Plum Bread and Cakes.
- Whitby Jet Store Standing in Church Street, the oldest part of the town, this is part of Whitby's heritage and was a family run business when James Storr first opened its door in 1860 and is still family run today.
